The first project I began, but never finished (and currently can't locate) was a Precious Moments stamped baby blanket kit that my late Grandma let me have out of her stash. Sort of interesting to have a first project be stamped but on a fabric that isn't something like aida with regular holes; it was a quilted blanket that didn't have any holes whatsoever. Looking back, I would definitely tell my younger self that it's okay to switch to different colors/areas if you're getting bored with what you're currently working on, and it'll look a little better/slightly less gap-y if you separate out all the threads first. Found a picture of the kit and added below, in a spoiler because the image is pretty big.
However, I'm
pretty sure the first stitch I actually completed were these pokemon sprites, specifically the Jirachi one. I believe the pattern was actually meant for the flags in Animal Crossing: City Folk, hence the square cutoffs; I still have a printout of the Lugia flag that I partially started right below the Jirachi. I'm pretty sure the threads came from a generic multi-pack of threads I got initially to make friendship bracelets with, though some of the Lucario colors may have come from some dollar tree kits that I got later? I don't quite remember. I didn't really have a plan for when I was done stitching them, and really made them too close to the edge
to do anything with, but they made me happy and it was a nice break from knitting, which was (and mostly still is) the fiber craft I do the most. Funnily enough, I think my younger self could teach the present me that the colors don't necessarily need to be the exact same color, or even the same brand, as the pattern states; I've become a bit of a perfectionist in that area since I started stitching more often.
