I am so used to not having a needle minder or pincushion, I often pop my needle in the corner of my fabric. But when I'm at my desk, I tend to use a biscornu now or the fabric mouse pad rest I made, it makes a very good spot for pins! I find needle minders add weight to my hoop and I don't like it much, so I have mine nearby instead on my metal monitor stand.
